Eclipse Safety
Jump to navigationOn Monday, August 21, a solar eclipse will be visible for the first time in 38 years. A partial eclipse will start at 1pm in the Toledo Area, with an 80-90% eclipse visible at 2:27pm, weather permitting.
- Never look directly at the sun with the naked eye.
- If you use binoculars or a telescope, they must have solar filters.
- Only use eclipse viewers that have been approved by ISO and the American Astronomical Society.
- Welding goggles are safe for solar viewing if they are made for arc welding and have a shade scale number of at least 14.
