Lake Local Schools partnered with Rudolph Libbe Group to construct a new, modern elementary school in Milbury, Ohio, marking the completion of the district’s campus modernization. The 92,206-square-foot, two-story facility features dedicated art and science classrooms, expanded learning spaces, advanced security, and an energy-efficient HVAC system.
Construction began in April 2023 and finished July of 2024 ahead of schedule leaving time for teachers to settle in before welcoming their students back. During construction the existing school remained operational as an active campus throughout, a challenge that required detailed coordination and logistics planning to avoid disrupting daily activities. The project team worked closely with school leadership to ensure that site logistics, traffic flow, and safety were carefully managed, providing temporary drives and parking, fencing the site, and maintaining a secure environment for students and staff.
Rudolph Libbe self-performed a significant portion of the work, including earthwork, concrete, masonry, and general trades, which allowed for greater control and flexibility. GEM Inc., part of the Rudolph Libbe Group of companies, played a key role by performing structural steel erection and mechanical work in addition to implementing value engineering services by redesigning the HVAC system.
Throughout the project, collaboration between the contractor, architect, and school district was prioritized, with regular team meetings and a transparent decision-making process. Communication was a standout aspect, with school administrators noting prompt responses and proactive updates, ensuring that any concerns were addressed immediately and that the district was kept informed at every stage.
The new elementary school brings substantial benefits to students and families, including larger learning spaces, specialized rooms for music and STEM, upgraded furniture, air conditioning, and multiple recess areas. The project also provided unique learning opportunities for students, such as construction viewing areas and interactive demonstrations. Delivered on time and meeting all customer goals, the project maintained uninterrupted school operations, prioritized safety, and fostered strong community involvement. The district expressed high satisfaction with the process and outcome, highlighting the collaborative working relationship, the quality of the finished facility, and the commitment of the Rudolph Libbe Group team.
