Renaissance Downtown Toledo Hotel opens for business
A massive renovation is complete for the Marriott-brand Renaissance Toledo Hotel, a 13-floor downtown riverfront structure formerly known as the Grand Plaza Hotel. GEM Inc. was responsible for replacing all of the heating and cooling units in every guest room including mechanical piping, electrical and thermostats.
GEM hung new lighting fixtures in the grand ballroom, lobby and guest restrooms on the first floor. The lower level restaurant required new electrical, plumbing and gas in the kitchen and extensive decorative lighting in the dining and bar area. Over the stove in the kitchen, the old hoods were reworked to turn on automatically with occupancy sensors and shunt trips were added to meet new codes.
The entire 12th floor was gutted and GEM electricians, plumbers and insulators performed work in the new kitchen and bar area which is an entirely new addition to the hotel. There was extensive new decorative lighting hung in this area as well.
Work on the 13th floor included new boilers in the mechanical room and a cooling tower that was lifted by helicopter and placed on the rooftop. The project was completed in early August 2017 to coincide with the new ProMedica headquarters and campus project along the downtown Toledo riverfront.
