An air separation facility in Michigan needed to grow its capacity to maintain their mission of maximizing production and efficiency. With a common core commitment of putting safety first, it was an easy choice to partner with the Rudolph Libbe Group to install necessary compressors, dryer equipment and a 220-foot cold box. The customer’s decision was motivated by RLG’s extensive knowledge of this complex project and offering of self-perform services such as machinery installation, civil/sitework and concrete work.

Rudolph Libbe Inc. completed foundation work and GEM Inc. executed challenging installations including the placement of a large 1300 hp compressor on pedestals that were 20 feet tall. The cold box was shipped horizontally and required precise preparation and dress out before the seven major pieces were ready to be installed. Final placement required two heavy lift cranes, with the heaviest component weighing over 590,000 lbs.
