The Collaborative, a premier architectural firm with offices in Toledo, OH and Ann Arbor, MI, has won more than 70 national, state and local design awards for client work. After 29 years in the historic Gardner Building, it was time to refresh The Collaborative’s own creative space into an architectural studio.

The solution was a new 9,660-square-foot build-out on the park level of One SeaGate in downtown Toledo. The Collaborative designed its new studio and selected Rudolph Libbe Inc. to serve as general contractor, with Rudolph Libbe and GEM Inc. craftspeople performing miscellaneous demolition, doors/hardware and millwork, plumbing, HVAC, electrical and teledata work.

In December 2016, the new office was completed – an L-shaped, open work space with floor-to ceiling windows offering natural light and views of the Plaza and Maumee River. The café, informal seating areas and open workstations encourage teamwork, while phone rooms offer quiet places for working individually.
