We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Building Automation Engineer to join our team. This position can be stationed at any GEM Service office location (Central Ohio, Walbridge, Cleveland, Plymouth, MI), but 25% travel to job sites and other offices is required.
• Design temperature control systems for commercial HVAC applications.
• Conduct equipment take-offs to assist estimators in determining control equipment counts.
• Provide updates to control submittal drawings in collaboration with the Lead Building Automation System Specialist and Project Managers.
• Cross-check design details for electrical power, control panels, relay logic, wiring, and control devices associated with HVAC, access, lighting, and CCTV systems.
• Support software engineering and system networking, including programming and communication system integration.
• Generate design submittals, as-built drawings, and operations & maintenance (O&M) packages.
• Obtain and coordinate cut sheets, submittals, and O&M assembly processes.
• Ensure compliance with contract drawings and specifications, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
• Select appropriate devices for specified applications while adhering to customer requirements.
• Create custom graphic packages for integration into the building automation system.
• Work closely with project managers, engineers, and field personnel to ensure seamless project execution.
• Assist in project reviews and value engineering to optimize costs and efficiency.
• Good knowledge of optimization and energy management strategy for BAS system.
• Good understanding of HVAC systems/controls, and functions of building automation systems.
• Thorough understanding of control theory and control concepts.
• Ability to read blueprints and interpret specifications.
• Proven attention to detail and ability to work independently and in a team.
• Possesses a strong environmental, health and safety mindset.
• Strong client-service orientation along with a high sense of urgency.
• Effective communication skills for the purpose of data relay, exchange, feedback, and clarification.
• Must be willing to wear Personal Protective Equipment when on job site walks where it is required.
• Ability to analyze complex information and prepare detailed estimates.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with clients, vendors, and team members.
• Experience with computers, computer networks and internet protocols
• Familiarity with Visio, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Competency in Bidtracer is a plus.
• Previous experience in estimating or project management within the building automation or construction industry of 5+ years.
• A degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is beneficial but not required.

• 5-10 years of proven work experience in design, implementation, and installation of building controls systems• Experience with computers, computer networks and internet protocols
